Foster Failure?

Life has been a little crazy lately. We went on vacation and are just getting back to a routine. I have not had much time for blogging.

Today was another adoption event and I am feeling a little down. Most of the dogs at the event today were small dogs or puppies. Both of these tend to grab people’s attention. Poor Rocky did not get a lot of people coming up to say hi, and no one interested. Sometimes I feel defeated with him. I see all the other dogs getting adopted, and here he stays.

I wonder if I should just adopt the poor guy so he can have a family.  You may ask why I don’t do that? This guy has been through a lot, he is comfortable at my house, doesn’t it make sense to let him stay? I have put serious thought into it. The thing holding me back is if I do adopt him there will be no more fostering, at least for the moment. We have 2 dogs of our own. 3 dogs is ok, but the couple times I have had 4 dogs here it gets crazy. Our house is too small. So Rocky is pretty much our dog. I  leave him on the adoption site because you never know, someone may come along some day that is a perfect fit. Until that time he is still living his best life. And if he does not get adopted, he will live out his days in a home filled with love. He is definitely spoiled rotten, we bought some new toys and treats today.

Before vacation Rover Rescue had an event at Culver’s to raise money. Rover Rescue was asked to supply volunteers to help serve, greet, and clean tables. I had vowed to not work with food after a high school job in the kitchen of a nursing home. I decided to go and help out, however, and  I am glad that I did. This was a fun experience. I opened the door for people when they came in and left. I had one guy say he never had a lady open a door for him. I had another guy look behind him to see who I was opening the door for and greeting. Most people were so thankful for such a simple gesture of opening a door. I had several family members come out to help support Rover, which I was so grateful for. I even got to see some extended family I have not seen in awhile. Thank you for everyone who came out!

Rover Rescue is an all volunteer rescue. We rely on donations to help out. We have been doing more fundraisers at restaurants to help out. We are hoping next time we are at Culver’s it will be nicer weather and we can have some dogs on the patio to greet people. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas so let us know if you know of somewhere we can work with.

For now that is all. Next time I will continue telling you about my other fosters. Have a great night.
